Burden and Health-related Quality of Life of Cancer Outpatient¡¯s Caregivers

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify burden and health related quality of life of cancer outpatient¡¯s care-giver for chemotherapy in university hospital Daegu city.
The subjects of this study were 131 adult caregivers of outpatient chemotherapy unit by questionnaire from first, October, 2003 to 31th, March, 2004.
The results of this study were as follows;
In general characteristics, percent of respondents by sex, female was 66.4%, there were significantly differences job, living together, rapport between male and female(P<0.05).
The mean score of caregiver burden of cancer outpatients for chemotherapy was 3.82, mean score of objective burden of caregiver was higher(4.60) than mean score of subjective burden(3.04), there was a significantly difference between mean score of objective burden and subjective burden(P<0.05).
Mean score of quality of life was 3.02 by relative and family relation mean score was highest and income level was lowest.
By demographis characteristics of caregivers related to burden there were significantly differences between mean scores of caregiver burden male and female, together living persons, relation with patient, social support, economical support and quality of life and economic status(P<0.05, P<0.01).
By patient¡¯s characteristics there were significant differences of mean score of caregiver burden between male and female, number of hospitalization(P<0.01).
In stepwise multiple regression analysis, mean score of older aged caregivers burden was higher than younger care-giver and no job was higher than attending to work(P<0.05).
